02 Eclipse 3.5l GT-T 1/8th mile

My car where you can see the number on there 3 different places:

The 3 different time slips with my number on them:

Those were done on 7psi and street tires with no adjustments made to anything (tires, suspension, etc).

Mod list is way too long to remember everything. This car from the factory runs mid 15s. So quite impressive for this car actually. 1/4 mile to come soon along with new clutch/flywheel and boost upped to 10-12psi.

10yearrx7 03-18-2011 02:55 PM

Looks good. Were you spinnin' alot? Judging by the 60' I would say so. I wonder what it would run on slicks.

Damian 03-18-2011 03:30 PM

The first 2 times, no. The slowest run I did, I spun quite a bit in all 3 gears. They put too much water out and I don't do water on street tires.

Ya they shouldn't of put water out there for street tires. The burnout really isn't going to help you that much.

But still a nice time for such a big car with fwd

enkeivette 03-18-2011 04:20 PM

Nice, turbo or blower?

Damian 03-18-2011 06:23 PM

Upgraded GNX turbo with a T04B H3 compressor.

enkeivette 03-18-2011 06:59 PM

You put a grand national turbo on a new eclipse? Cough cough not CARB legal! Hahaha

SeanPlunk 03-18-2011 08:08 PM

That's awesome, congrats :)

Damian 03-18-2011 10:18 PM

There is jack out there that is CARB legal for this car. Just have to pay extra for a smog check. I put a Dynomax turbo muffler on it and it is so much quieter now. I'll post an engine bay picture here soon.

enkeivette 03-27-2011 10:57 AM

Hey... I'm not one to be pointing fingers. Haha

Shaolin Crane 03-27-2011 11:19 AM

Bout what my truck runs :p
I'd love to get out there with a working diff and tires other than some mud terrains and duke it out with you

Damian 03-28-2011 09:59 PM

New clutch and flywheel will allow me to up the boost. That should allow me to be around 350whp or so. I cant wait for that!

Damian 04-30-2011 12:03 AM

Just an update:

Car was running fantastic, just installed a Summitracing oil filter relocation kit and fixed a couple minor oil leaks. Took it for a drive and went over a set of railroad tracks and the timing belt jumped (interference engine). So now I'll be pulling everything out and putting a newer set of heads on it along with some new gaskets here and there. I'll also be installing the new clutch and chromoly flywheel. Should be all done by the end of June. Can't wait! 12psi, here I come!

Interference engine?

Sonic03SVT 04-30-2011 08:25 AM

Interference engine means that if the timing gets out of whack, there is insufficient clearance for the valves...basically they hit the tops of the pistons if its not all synched up as it should be. Timing belt jumps = no more valves.

Damian 04-30-2011 01:25 PM

That's what it is, and it sucks.

mdpalmer 04-30-2011 04:09 PM

Bummer about the timing belt. Nice MPH on the first one. You're good for high 12s @ 108-110 mph I bet :) When I was rotary my 1/8 mile speeds were about 86-87 mph... 1/4 speed was about 108-110. I did manage one pass with 112+ mph (and 13.7 ET, yeah I suck). Couldn't ever break 13s because I can't drive worth a damn! It's all in the 60'... At the time my car weighed about 2800 lbs w/o me in it, about 290-300 wheel-hp.

How much does your car weigh sans driver?

Damian 04-30-2011 11:30 PM

From the factory, curb weight is 2822lbs.

Damian 06-08-2011 11:37 AM

I finally got everything pulled out yesterday and began tear down today. Valves look descent (not going to use them again or the same heads), but I did find out what was causing me to knock like crazy after I put everything back together:

Location of missing piece is still under investigation.

Shaolin Crane 06-08-2011 05:12 PM

You have pics for me si?

Most likely broken into small pieces and out the exhaust. That's what happened when I did that in the Cobra. You could hear the metal tinking sound as it went through the exhaust.

Ouch! Weird.. so your valves were spared but the piston got clipped. How do the cylinder bores and combustion chambers on the heads look? Any scuffing or other damage?

Damian 06-08-2011 11:11 PM

The heads look fine, I'll post a pic tomorrow of them tomorrow.

The turbo blades show no damage either, thank God. I'm guessing they are sitting in front of the cat, so I'll be looking there.

Damian 06-09-2011 03:51 PM

No damage on the heads at all from this.

Damian 06-10-2011 01:31 AM

Found one of my hydraulic lifters on the intake side damaged. The lasher itself came apart and wouldn't even go back together. Good thing I have many others to replace it with.

Damian 06-15-2011 12:37 AM

Got the replacement piston today. Engine assembly begins tomorrow.

Shaolin Crane 06-15-2011 12:56 AM

Did you still want the stuff coated?

Damian 06-15-2011 08:56 AM

I will. I have to get this up and running so I can work on the GTO. So once the GTO is done, I'll have quite a bit of work for you to do. I wanted you to do the manifold and some other parts, but life took over and put a kink in that. I will have you do those Brembo calipers for sure though.

Shaolin Crane 06-15-2011 12:32 PM

If you want to keep it simple black I'll work with you, still need funds towards that tire seeing as I have a horrible time controlling my spending on the new car :D

Damian 06-15-2011 01:02 PM

I'm just going to try and go to the junkyard this weekend and see if I can find extra parts. That way you can take your time with them.

Shaolin Crane 06-15-2011 01:31 PM

if you'd like I can do them while you wait if you can make it during the week

Damian 06-15-2011 10:10 PM

How much would you charge to do 4 two piston Brembos, and 2 four piston Brembos? I'll talk to my buddy, he might want to get his powder coated instead of just paint.

Damian 06-15-2011 10:57 PM

I just talked to my buddy, he is very interested in his Brembos getting done. He wants to see if you can powder coat "Brembo" on the caliper as well. Red calipers with white lettering. I just want my 2 calipers media blasted.

Shaolin Crane 06-15-2011 11:19 PM

That would be a lot of work, I don't have any white powder and I would need stencils of the word brembo to cut the decals out of my special masking tape. I'm not sure what I would charge to just media blast, I would on charge $35 a caliper in either red or black, glossy or matte finish if you bring them to me all at once.

Damian 06-16-2011 03:56 AM

I told him that the lettering wouldn't be easy. I'll talk to him and let you know for sure, I have to tear the calipers apart for you first.

Shaolin Crane 06-16-2011 09:07 AM

Using engine enamel paint over the powdercoat will last a long time, and here is a place that sells the stencil.

Damian 06-16-2011 10:33 PM

I might actually get those for mine too. I have to call R1concepts tomorrow and get pricing on new seals. After I know that, I'll let you know for sure on those, but I'm pretty sure I have him talked into it.

Shaolin Crane 06-16-2011 11:34 PM

Alright, its too late to do it before i leave since we're leaving this weekend. But that should give you a week to get everything in order and i'll do it when i get back. Works perfectly, i'll be back and the 348 for the 87 will be ready, and hopefully in a month or 2 i'll have everything to get it tuned. Hell i'll make a thread for that car too.

Damian 06-17-2011 07:44 PM

That's fine, he is in no rush.

Damian 06-25-2011 12:36 AM

I have everything reinstalled in the car but my damn throw out bearing won't lock in like it's supposed to. Everything is brand new in there, clutch, flywheel, and throw out bearing. I'm not very happy at all. Anyone know anything I can try to get it to hold like it's supposed to?
