Looking for a Helmet!!!

I am racing in the NMCA WEST Event this weekend at Pomona and just found out that the helmet I was going to use expired the first of this year. I am not looking to spend $$ on a helmet right now if I can avoid it. I was wondering if anyone locally to OC had a helmet that I could borrow? I got a big melon... I need an XL that has a Snell M2005, M2010, SA2005, or SA2010 certification.

Damian 08-15-2012 11:56 AM

I have a large but I can only see "SNELL approved DOT" Irwindale and Fontana never said anything to me about it. http://www.hjchelmets.com/prds_cl15.htm Its the MC-5 coloring, if that matters.

Shaolin Crane 08-15-2012 12:08 PM

Chaparrell in berdo has snell helmets for $50 or so.

Oh, and i'm sure you can cram your head into a medium. I did :) only did it cause i got a new icon for $50

I am borrowing the Toyos from my co-worker as the Event Guy here said I should run in True Street and that requires a 30 mile cruise before the runs and I do not want to drive that much on your tires. Thanks though Ron. You coming to the race with the family?

I will call you on my way home Paul. I get out of work around 5:15 and we can meet up. Thanks buddy!

My tires are the MT ET Street drag slicks so they are DOT legal. If you still want to use them you can, I don't care that you'll put 30 miles on them. They'll probably hook up better if you did.

I'm not sure if we'll make it. Amy has been out of town this week and doesn't get home until Saturday so I'll have to see. If I don't see you there have a good time and I wish you the best. Hopefully you do well.

Probably gonna be tough for me to grab them before the race. Thanks though, I am just going to run with the Toyos.

I'm home now . My cell sucks at home so I'll PM ya the house #. I get to work off Via Fabricante 7:30 ish, if ya want to swing by there in the morning..

C5Natie 08-16-2012 05:05 AM

Hey Leedom, are you running in the True Street Class? I wanted to run but it looks like you have to get a Sat-Sun pass for $125. Sound right? I only have Friday open or else I'd probably go for it.

I am running True Street. You are correct... $125. That is for 3 Dial in passes (hot laps) and at least 1 round of racing. Entering in True Street automatically enters you in brackets on Sunday as well so you can get some racing in then as well.

Big thanks to Paul. Helmet fit fine and I am now ready for racing! Gonna be fun!

Had a fun time today. Track was not prepped the best and it was hot so I only ran 14.251, 13.965 and 13.958 (previous best of 13.28)which averaged to a 14.06 and won me the 14second class plaque and $100 cash prize. Could have used your tires Ron. Oh well, it worked out.

To everyone that ever gave me garbage about my driving, I expect you all to give Leedom a world of shit.

And didnt sean drive a croba? and he was still slower then adams mach 1. :pot_stir:

94cobra69ss396 08-19-2012 09:30 PM

Good job Adam! It's probably a good thing you didn't use my tires because that would have put you in the 13 range on all three passes and you might not have won.

To be fair he only ever ran it at Fontana. For reference C6Zs were only ever running 12s there as well. And I"ve seen a bunch of them. Makes me wonder what Ron's Cobra and Chevelle would run at a good track? Low 11s and 9s respectively? Probably. It also impresses me further about the GT-R, which seems to run 11.8@118mph pretty much regardless of where it is at. This means it's running at its envelope in a huge array of environments.

Yes to the chevelle, not so sure about the cobra, maybe .10 or .15 faster but he's about at its limit currently with weight and power. Which is what makes the car so impressive is how well it performs for being a pig.

And for the sake of shit talking, i stand by my cobra comment :pot_stir:

I don't think the Chevelle would pick up much on a better prepped track. Maybe a lower elevation one. Listen to the launch in the video of my 10.01. You can hear the tires grabbing. The 60ft on that run was a 1.493. I think my best 60ft ever has been a 1.47.

You know what's in the works for the Cobra so you know I should be able to better my 11.69 @ 119. I might even have it done by the time they re-open Fontana.

Shaolin Crane 08-20-2012 11:01 AM

I dont remember enough of the chevelle to be sure. As for the cobra I was talking about your last combo. I agree you should pick up a few tenths before the block splits. :)

Our cars should be neck and neck in a run, similar weight, "near" identical engine combos and almost identical suspension. I wont know final weight until i'm done with the sound deadener but i figure we'll be within 100lbs. Curb weight on a GT is 3430, I weigh 190lbs and added about 100lbs of "interior" who knows what the seats weigh over stock and the stereo will add quite a bit too. Should be fun, we'll likely be even on HP but you'll have the torque advantage.

94cobra69ss396 08-20-2012 11:13 AM

My car weighs 3442 and I'm down to 187 so we should be real equal.

Shaolin Crane 08-20-2012 12:18 PM

Shit, my car might actually be heavier :(
