What's your next mod?

It's slow around here - we need a pickup post. So, what is the next single mod you have planned for your car?

Decided to upgrade the fuel system before I intercool. I actually found a non-piston diaphragm pump by Holley that should support the hp. And if it doesn't I'll return it to Summit. I've done that before.

I'd go electric but then I'd need to upgrade my alt and do a bunch of custom wiring and tubing. My alt is already taxed with the electric fans.

After RX-Snake, mine would fall into one of two categories:

- Engine
1.7 Rockers
Put in some sodium filled valves I have
Cold Stat
Headers
Injectors
Retune

OR
Gucci Big Brake setup

kdracer73 02-04-2010 08:23 AM

Not really mods. Heater core ! Oil pan gasket ! Got the parts, not the time:surrender: Planned mod- quick ratio steering box.

No need for brakes. I can attest to that.:p

Install the PCM I have with a performance tune. I would like to upgrade the radiator for the intercooler and put in an extra coolant tank to increase the amount of coolant for the intercooler.

After the motor is done then I will probably be in need of an upgraded clutch and a new seat. I will probably take a break for a while after that. When I'm scheduled to return to the "main land" I will be looking for a built car for ST-1 or GT2. If I can't find something in my price range then I will sned my car back early and have it caged and stripped down.

What would be the price range for a ready to go car for ST-1/GT2?
- New from scratch
- Used but in good condition

Stay away from SPEC clutches, too much chatter. And buy it before the motor goes back in!!!

If you go with a one piece, use silicone. The directions on mine said to put it in dry, I did, it leaked. 2nd time around I put it in with silicone, seals.

SBCs are leak happy.

First on my list is to build a rear shock hoop on the Explorer so that I can run longer shocks. Right now I have a shock that has 9.25 inches of travel. It has 3 inches of up travel and is bottoming out 5 inches before my bump stop. I need to raise the upper mount and then install longer shocks. It should cycle 14-15inches when I'm done.

For the Cobra I need to do the brakes and figure out an electrical issue that it now has.

For the Chevelle I going to install the new windows I bought for it.

ST-1 ready to go can be anywhere between $50-80K depending on what is done. Build one yourself will be around $130k. That includes the price of the car and the upgrades. You can strip a used Z06 and cage it, then but some slicks and run it. It would be pointless though.

A GT-2 car is >$100K unless you can find a deal. You can find some cheaper RX-8s, but you will be continously fighting not to come last.

I troll the back pages of Grassroots motorsports magazine and Sportscar Magazine to see what's for sale.

I have time.:)

I think I will put a bass boat paint job and some gold Dayton wheels on my dads FJ40.:rolling:

My Fj40 will get a new fuel tank, longer rear leaf springs and the axle moved back 5 inches. Then 37 inch tires.

The Jimmy will be getting new dual exhaust with flow masters to go behind the recently installed 383cid small block.

Are you gonna have to cut into the floor in the rear or are you essentially just moving the mounting point to right underneath the floor?

It was when you were here and I've been in Atlanta since then so my guess is yes but I'm not sure.

I'm not sure yet. I originally moved the lower mount from the leaf spring perch to up on the axle because it was limiting my down travel. I lost 2-3 inches I think but I'll have to measure to see. I'm going to move the lower back down to the original mount and then see how high the top has to go. I have 2 inches that I can go up on the upper without having to cut the floor so I'm hoping I can make it work. If not I'll cut the floor and then weld it back up so that the shocks are still outside the truck.

How you gonna handle the roof situation? You have to work hard in a C3 to keep the bar from the back to the front from being right next to your head (which is dangerous itself.)

I can def see that. I kept hitting my head on the headliner mounts after I removed the headliner because I'm tall. So then I cut the mounts off with a dremel tool. If there was a big steel bar there... that would suck.

I had a custom seat mount for my Sparco seat made. It sets about as flush to the floor as possible. I took out the liner portion of the top. I'm just 5'10~ and with a helmet I get reasonable clearance to the top, but not much. It wouldn't really be much to the side. About all you could do is forget that you have T-Tops and remove the latching mechanism (or somehow reorient them) and use chromoly instead of DOM (smaller possible diameter). Then it might be minimally tolerable . . . minimally.

I will use the smaller chrome moly tubing, with padding. I don't have t-top liners. It's gonna be tight.

If it's padded that should be cool. That padding will save your dome every time you come out of a driveway diagonally for sure.

Got a little slow at work, decided to kill time by fabing a air cleaner box to seal my air cleaner to the cowl induction hood...... if it goes well I'll put up pics. If it looks like crap.......:suicide:
