Best Droid Phone?

I'mma fix'n to get a smart phone and have decided to get a Droid. But which one? I'm leaning towards the X because of the much larger expandable storage. The device will be doing multiple-duty, including MP3 player and doc reader.

SeanPlunk 10-04-2010 01:28 PM

What carrier?

If you're talking Verizon, the Droid X is the best currently. The Incredible is great too if you don't mind the smaller screen. You might also check out the Samsung Captivate. It's a 4inch SUPER AMOLED screen (X is 4.3 and Incredible is 3.7) and it's beautiful. The GPU is also the best on the market and it has a very fast ARM A8 processor. If you want to wait a little longer and want a phone with a keyboard then this new HTC is pretty awesome.

A 1500(the new HTC phone) quadrant score(android benchmark) is smoking fast. My X with 2.2 is typically between 1400 and 1492. The Evo 4G/Incredible runs in the high 1200/low 1300 range for comparison.

I'm on AT&T which I've never personally had that much trouble with, but considering moving to Verizon at the same time, in part depending on how much terminating my ATT contract would cost.

Noted. :drink:

Can I bring my number to Verizon. I've always hated cell phones, so I still don't know much about them.

Chuck 10-04-2010 04:36 PM

Yes you can bring your number.

blackax 10-04-2010 05:35 PM

I would say get a ATT nexus one...It is the best phone i have ever had. It is uncrapified even compared to the Verizon android phone and you will get all of the updates first

but if you want to go to Verizon then get the droid 2. Its faster then the droid x and all of the droid phones can hold up to 32gb Micro SD cards

blackax 10-04-2010 05:35 PM

Oh by the way i have a first gen droid if you want it

The Droid 2 isn't faster - exact same GPU and CPU

blackax 10-05-2010 12:44 AM

Sorry i was looking at the Droid 2 r2d2 version that has the 1.2 ghz processor

I've pretty much decided on switching to Verizon and going with an X.

Chuck 10-05-2010 07:47 PM

Good choice, thats the phone I plan to get in December when my contract is up!

SeanPlunk 10-05-2010 08:47 PM

I LOVE my X. Great phone.

Leedom 10-05-2010 08:53 PM

I have the incredible and love Verizon.

blackax 10-05-2010 09:53 PM

Nexus One is still the phone for me...And I Love ATT

BRUTAL64 10-06-2010 02:48 PM

I have the Razor and T-mobile---I'm styling.:censored:

Vettezuki 10-06-2010 06:14 PM

Switched to Verizon and got the X. Looks pretty cool. The Samsung Fascinate also looked fantastic, but it's a bit smaller and has less internal storage capacity and a few other features, like Hot Spot.

If you're going to get a Droid and you're a member of Costco, get it there. They have many advantages over a Verizon retail store. Rebate is in store. Activation fee is refunded ($35). Accessory kit is included (probably worth about $60). Something else I already forgot.

Chuck 10-06-2010 06:47 PM

Nice Ill have to hit up Costco when the time comes. Did you get a HDMI cable with the Accessory kit?

Don't think so. Sent from X.

Vettezuki 10-19-2010 01:05 AM

Ok, WTF. My X spontaneously and for reasons I can't quite figure launches the dialer and starts making the last call I made. Then asks for voice commands. The only thing I can think of is that because I'm listening to MP3s with regular headphones, it's receiving what it thinks as a signal to launch the dialer.

enkeivette 10-19-2010 10:29 AM

Droooiiid

Is you X updated to froyo? I know it was haveing some problems but im not sure if those where it....

SeanPlunk 10-19-2010 03:27 PM

I'm sure it is Froyo at this point, but the current Froyo build has some quirks. Occasionally my phone seems to mute itself for no reason and I've had a couple instances where I powered it down only to have itself power up again for no particular reason. My wife has an Incredible and when she takes her headphones out she can't hear anything on an incoming call.

blackax 10-19-2010 03:29 PM

Thats why i use CM6 with the stock launcher on my N1....Not sure if they have an X build yet but i know they have an incredible one

Best thing about android is that i can reflash and all my apps get downloaded again :-P

I was almost right. It was the headphones "sending" erroneous signals to the Droid. There is a Widget called Headphone Blocker. Done.

raVenX 10-21-2010 11:04 AM

You can root the Droid 1 very easily. From what I understand, the new Droid 2 and Droid X have new provisions that if the bootloader doesn't match what your carrier put on there, then it bricks the phone.

Also, the faster the CPU is, the shorter the battery life will be. Same with the screen size. Bigger the screen, the shorter the battery life.

If you're not into modding your phone, then the Droid X, HTC Incredible, and the iPhone all good choices.

Can you easily toggle it on and off. I don't want people to know where I am all the time, but on cruise days, etc., it might be useful?

Yes you can. I think you can also put in a location where you want it to show you.
