SoCalC55 05-18-2009 06:15 PM

Sean, I have a few people that want to know the address for the "There's a McDonald's and Starbucks within walking distance of the meet up location."

Some of the LA people may want to meet up there, so what time would we estimate being there?

kdracer73 05-18-2009 10:04 PM

UH..........Check the first post , my friend.

Alrighty boys and girls, we have a whole new ball game on our hands.

Hwy 2 just (literally 20 minutes ago) opened up all the way through. There is no need to turn around. I will map a route and test it, but we'll probably stop at the same place for a break, then continue on through and come return via Azusa.

That is AWESOME news!

Any mention of if you guys are stopping for lunch at that same place you did last year? Or are you just going to plow through? I think maybe a potty stop for those who need it might be in order...or should we just line it up over the edge of the cliff? JK

No lunch at Newcombs. There are restrooms at the top where I still think we'll stop. Plenty of pull offs where you can do your business au natural if you need to.

enkeivette 05-21-2009 10:31 PM

I'll be in NY, damn you all to hell.

I will be there. Will the guy with the Silver vert terminator be there? I would love to get SS396's newly upgrades 5.0, that silver cobra, and my vette to "pick the pace up" here and there.:drink:

SexyLxy 05-22-2009 01:07 PM

Hey Carlos,

I believe you are talking about "Jose." Sean will have to update if he will be in attendance. I believe his screen name is silverterm something.

Actually he's talking about Noel with the built motor whipple Cobra. I'll try to find out.

Actually no, just a coincidence. Found that out a few days ago.

Vettezuki 05-25-2009 03:15 AM

For any of you guys that have video cameras (miniDV), PM me and I will give you a tape at the beginning of the run and collect it at the end. I want to get a lot more sources this year.

Quick99 05-26-2009 08:53 AM

Man this looks like alot of fun. Count me in!!!!!

Madmax305 05-26-2009 02:52 PM

WoooHoooo! Let's do it....:drink:

Vettezuki 05-26-2009 05:10 PM

Sean has floated the idea, and it makes some sense, of maybe separating into two broad groups.

I shall call them:
Group A - Dukes of Hazard
Group B - Driving Miss Daisy

You get the idea. I know BADDASS wants to push a little. I push a little. Nothing so extreme or dangerously illegal, just a little fun. But some are just out for a nice relaxing cruise.

What say ya'lls?

Madmax305 05-26-2009 05:20 PM

Sounds good! Count me in group A. :drink:

Just to clarify, I think we're going to have so many cars that you would have a solid amount in both groups. It's not as if the Group B would be only 3 cars or something. In fact, I'm planning on being in Group B probably

Don't blame me! I will be well inside of the speedlimit. My goal is to enjoy the beutiful mountain scenery.:drink:

I think that's best for everyone. :nutkick:

Depending, maybe we'll even do three groups as I honestly think I'd fall somewhere in between. We'll see.

Anyway, it's just an idea. You can get blocked real easy on these roads and there are often police looking for trouble makers, so there isn't going to be any Gumball action.

Vettezuki 05-26-2009 05:50 PM

I'll clean this up, but this is basically the route I'm thinking of taking. I will try my darndest to pre-run it and take notes for the day of.

C is where we had to turn around last time. It is now supposedly open all the way through. Unfortunately, that little connector right there to the 39 isn't open because that'd be bad ass. Still, the total run is about the same as last time in length (slightly longer) with no back tracking.

Note: I map the 605 - 210 instead of 5 up to the 2 for two reasons. One) There is a lot of traffic going up through LA on the 5 so it's not much faster even though it's shorter. Two) it's much more motorcycle friendly because it doesn't have those crazy interchanges and nutty LA traffic.

SoCalC55 05-26-2009 06:37 PM

Seems like you're expecting a bunch of bikes with your posts....?

The 2 groups would be a good idea.. but i think it will happen naturally. I guarantee one group will be a good 10mins + ahead of the last person when we stop up off the 210

Not expecting so much, just making room. last year we had three. They obviously move at a totally different rate through the mountains. I did have to push to even sort of keep up. See film.

Carlos is right though. If you keep near the speed limit through the mountains, you're moving pretty good actually. A decreasing radius off-camber ascending curve is plenty fun at or (well below) the speed limit.

My car never wants to stay straight on third gear burnouts. THat damned IRS:huh:.
Oh well. I did get a great view of ALL the other cars in my rear view mirror:thumbs_up:.

I don't know what happens, but as soon as there was a slight bend in the road you guys were going so slow.

I was never right behind you pumpkin. I was following the bikes on the way up which we're going a helluva lot faster. :pot_stir: Otherwise I was blocked by Fords. You know how it is. :nutkick:

The fact that you were following and the fact that they were bikes means they are slow.:(. I admit that they can make it around the traffic faster, but that is it:judge:.

They weren't; I'm just that good. Actually I started to loose my nerve towards the end and let them run off. While they had more on the table my lil' ole Vette (in my hands at least) was at the edge of comfort.
