Downside of Salvage Title Vehicles

Ok so i got a few questions. I found a 65 Ford falcon 6 cylinder with 3 on the tree, really good condition no rust, runs good. Only problem is that is has a salvage title. Now before anyone says don't buy it. The only reason why it's salvage is because the front grill got smashed in, and a headlight got busted. No frame damage whatsoever. What are the downsides to having a salvage title car? I.e. more expensive insurance, harder to register. It's already got a California title. I have just never owned a salvage title car, and am not sure what all needs to be done, and what to be aware of when buying a car like that. Any response is appreciated.

http://www.carinsurancerates.com/ask...age-title.html Some basic information on salvage title. I bought a Gsxr that was salvaged because the insurance totaled it out for a dent in the tank.

Nothing wrong with it if it does in fact have no frame damage. But I wouldn't believe that it had no frame damage just because the owner said so. Get under there and look.

Cool, thanks for that info.

Has the vehicle been registered and driven since titled as salvaged? I bought a salvaged vehicle once and had to get it inspected at a brake and lamp inspection station. Wrote it up for $2000 worth of "required" repairs before they would issue a cert! It was 91 Lexus es250 that was rear ended and the damage was not that bad. All the repairs had to do with brakes and lamp adjustments. One of the brake pads was worn .5mm more than the others (still had 4mm left but they said the uneven wear was a safety issue) and the headlamp adjusters did not work do to stripped thread, so both headlamp assy had to be changed. Could not get it registered until it was certified.

My car has a salvaged title

No issues insuring it, i have the same coverage and deductible as my truck. Smog and registration is the same

I know several body/paint guys that buy wrecks with a salvage title, rebuild them and sell. They seem to make a profit. Might make it difficult to finance, depending on what it is.
