Dodge... fail.
My mom's SRT4 lost the timing belt and bent all the valves yesterday... at 92K miles. So for the 3rd time I get to pull the head on an inline 4 dodge motor.
Track record: Neon: Lost timing belt at 82K miles, needed all new valves. Neon: Lost trans at 89K miles. Neon... ... ...lots of problems before 100K. SRT4: Lost timing belt at 92K miles, prob needs all new valves. If my Jeep didn't have a Mercedes engine I'd be scared right now. And oh yeah, my mom called Dodge to ask for a service estimate. They quoted her $5K. They won't fix it, they want to replace the engine. :inout: Unless its a 2nd gen Viper, I don't see any Dodges in my future. |
You can talk to my builder, valves are $6-$10 each, unless youre looking for a used head. In that case it might be good to get a valve job and rebuild. I belive its $150-$200 but i'd have to check

Timing belts should be done at 60k to be safe. Its not fun, but it does mKs me like timing chains more and more.

I already got it back together, fortunately my boss sort of forgot about me till today. And me and my friend were able to get it running. 60K for a timing belt? Hells no. 120K is the soonest service interval I've seen for a timing belt. You know what I did see ALL over the place when I was in there? Hencho en Mexico!!! ...No wonder. |
Roommates PT Cruiser, 2.4L T. Turbo bearings failed at just over 100K. Computer would not communicate with ANY scan tool just under 100K.
