Plastidip
has anyone here tried it? I am considering Doing it to the vette. I am going to have to hack the rear valence to install the wing and I am also going to rivet the front air dam in place. The air dam came loose at the track. It wasn't too bad, but I don't want to risk it. I am also planning on building a Alumalite front splinter.

Are you doing it to be temporary?

Basically, the car take a real beating at the track. So I need something that is reasonably repaired.

I did it on my Z. You hit something minor and it starts to chips. Looks great but you have to keep up with it. Are you looking to do your rims or the car?

The whole car. The wing uprights bolt directly to the bumper support and the front air dam it getting riveted to the front valence.

Oh. Well then. I have no idea how it would work on the entire car. My experience with it on my rims I will say it is easy to put on but takes a few coats, and it is easy to take off. If you end up trying it, please let me know.

Why not just paint it? Plastidip is meant for temporary trial basis stuff. It chips easily and unless you do HEAVY coats its not all that easy to peel off. And its expensive, alot cheaper to just scuff and spray black and satin clear. Or just repaint what needs to be repainted.

It looks pretty easy to work with both applying and removing. Paint will not last on the vette. I would have to get a clear bra to protect it. Even then it will get damaged quickly. I figure the plasti dip can get completely destroyed and I can remove it and respray for $200. At that price and the amount of required labor I could spray the car fairly regularly. Remember the corvette doesn't see anything but track time.
