I just wanted to say that while your new car is full-tilt awesome, I'm still gonna treat you like a two dollar hooker . JK - I think we should get in some good competitive runs.

Default Good Times Yesterday at the speedway.

Well, even though the track organization was awful - yesterday was a pretty good day at California Speedway overall. There weren't too many breakdowns and it wasn't too hot. Props to Ben who ran 4 passes ranging between 13.2 to 13.6 with a best mph of 111(way fast). Also, I want to give a to Chate who ran his Corvette for the first time and managed to put together a high 13 second pass(even though the track screwed up so he didn't get the slip ). I was not quite so lucky, my first pass was a whopping 14.3@105mph(banged the rev limiter ) backed by a 15.4@80mph(missed 2nd 2x, missed 3rd 1x ). By the end of the day though with some good advice from Brian and Mike, I managed to run a 13.7@107 and a 13.5@108. I think at the next event in December I should be able to take what I learned yesterday and run in the lower 13's(hopefully). I feel like I have a 12 second car, with a 14 second driver Anyway, I can't wait for next time, it was a lot of fun. I think drag radials are a must though, the traction at the line sucks.

It was hella fun. In fact, more fun than I really thought it would have been. I'd like to go out int he future with a bigger group and bring a tent, chairs, BBQ . . . the usual. And parking a less than a mile from the grand stands would be cool too.

Videos to come shortly. I was actually thinking about technique. I'm thinking in my case maybe a launch from 3,500 - 4,000 in second might work for me to get the all important 60' down and cut out a shift. I'd really like to see if I can break across 13 at Fontana with just technique on a complete street setup, not even taking pressure out of the tires. I'm not sure I can get another 0.2 below my best run which felt pretty good overall; just can't get anywhere near hammering it off the line in first. I'd also like to go to Irwindale maybe once before December to compare 60' and 1/8th ET, MPH., could be very interesting.

Vids are coming, I worked on them a fair bit last night.

PS I really think you need to get this package. A guy like Mike can help you install it for reasonable cost. For something like $4k all in, this and some tires with your automatic and we would all have a VERY hard time keeping up at the strip.

Trick Flow Heads and Cam Package

Default Tire Selection and Driving Technique

Tires were obviously a huge limiting factor at Fontana. I PMd Ranger over at Corvette Forum and here's what he told me.

". . . I'd suggest starting out with BFG drag radials, properly sized to you car. You'll need to research the specific size that will work best.

Which tire is best will depend on what clutch you're running, whether the rear is hardened, and your techniques for heating the tires. A burnout procedure is found at my website via a link in my signature.

I've not drag raced a C3 since my 68. So I'd suggest learning to use the Forum's search engine and doing some reading on the C3 and drag racing boards before selecting a specific tire.

Keep in mind that you can easily by a tire with too much traction. Correct tire is very important to the perf of the car . . ."

He also has his own site, which I think we should all thoroughly ingest.

http://www.rangeracceleration.com/

PS I've got my runs up. I'll provide you guys with the videos of your runs so you can upload them under your user.
