So I'm told that candies are extraordinarily hard to spray. I've been told it's easy to make them look blotchy, is this true? Any advice? Warnings?

The mid stage colors are translucent, as they get more saturated (darker) with each pass of the gun. This is what makes touch-ups and blends impossible. If the gun is not set up perfect and/or the painter is not "on his game" there will be mottling, tiger stripes etc. in the finish. Looks like crap when done. Great looking when properly executed, but there are drawbacks.

I guess I'll stay away from it then. I wouldn't want to risk it, I can imagine how hard it would be to avoid the tiger stripes when doing an entire car candy. Damn, I was excited for that.
Steve, he's doing great. Healthy, retired and enjoying life.

I like the idea, but I think a quick gradient rather than a hard line would make a cooler effect IMO.

Ha....You want my opinion...be careful what you ask for...lol...I prefer an intense stripe color, like metallic cobalt blue or any candy using gold or silver as a base. A subtle color stripe will get lost in the black. I even went as far as putting gold side accents on either side of the red center stripe. You want the eye to be drawn to the stripe, IMO. You should see the stripes under night lights...POP!

I think if you have a strong contrast, a sharp line is cool. I think when you you're going between closely related shades (black, to dark charcoal for example) a quick gradient, that is a transition, might come off kinda neat. JMO
A gradient is like in our logo down the helix from black to white.

Still leaning towards the charcoal stripe, considering going with a lighter shade of charcoal to match the wheel spokes.
